Unfortunately, due to a lot of rush projects, work and also the official Level Up summer outing, much of the schedules have been cancelled.

But allow me to officially announce the next series of matches of LU UGC 2008.

It’s going to be this Friday, May 30, 2008. Stay tuned for the announcement of which teams will go against whom. I will be sending official e-mails to the team captains.

We setup Xbox and PS2 at the main conference room and used Jasper’s BPO area for the Counterstrike and Starcraft (PC) matches. Since LUI and Chase and the Others didn’t get to play their PC games for the first match, they were the first ones to match up.

For the LUI Counterstrike match it was Toby, Adrian and “import” Erwin M better known in CS circles as “Khadaffy”. Format was team-match max-round 12. C.A.T.O, with their CS players, Chris, Neil and Archie prevailed over ICT 13 to 6.

Marketing vs. ICT

It was time to prove if all my boys’ hot-air and trash talking was worth its weight inside the games. Here’s the coverage of the individual game matches

TEKKEN

For Marketing, it was PW BM Keith Morales up against ICT’s Owen. Keith used Heihachi and sometimes Jin vs. Owen’s Akasha. Keith prevailed 5 to 2 in the race to 5 format.

NBA 2K8

Trash talking, super passing and alley-hoops spelled the victory for Marketing. With Kiven Codamon teaming up with GM Atma, Wudie Morales for Marketing. They were up against ICT’s Owen and Calvin. It was a best of three with 3 minute quarters. Marketing played Orlando and ICT chose Kobe and the Lakers. Orlando won 52 to 43 first game and sealed the match 54 to 40 the second time around.

GUITAR HERO 3

Marketing’s Dodge R had to leave for an important engagement so it was up to RO ABM Rob Yatco to continue Marketing’s winning streak. Alas, we were creamed by Owen of ICT 2-0. Hey! He’s in almost every game. Trying to vie for MVP, perhaps? Lolz.

It was a default for Marketing for Starcraft and Mario Kart had to be rescheduled.

It’s a tie between CATO and Marketing! But it’s still everyone’s ballgame.

Last Friday, April 4, we kicked off the official first match of the Level Up UGC 2008!

And it was LU International vs. Chase and the Others. Both teams are even-steven with 3 points a-piece. The first game, NBA 2k8 was a “cardiac finish” as the great Joe Lipa would say. GameBoss Ben Colayco and Content Director Phil Cahiwat (playing Spurs) were up against GPS Chris Dee and Neil (playing Pheonix). Pheonix edged out the Spurs 35 to 33. Team Chase and the Others (CatO) takes first blood.

Meanwhile, in the second event – Guitar Hero 3, LU International had a great revenge as their girl gamer, Cheena beat the crap out of Chris to even out the scores 3 points each. Then advantage was back for CatO as they asserted their authority in their best game, Team Mario Kart for the Nintendo DS beating International 402 to 88.

But International’s “golden boy”, Adi M proved that he was the toughest dude to beat in Tekken 5 as whipped CatO’s RD’s @$$ 5 games to nil.

Unfortunately, I had to call a ‘rain check’ on the PC games due to some ‘network security technical glitches’. CatO and LUI will have to face off on Starcraft and Counterstrike this week before the second match between Marketing and ICT.

At the end of the day, the best game is BOMBERMAN 4-on-4. I took the challenge versus Codamon, Alex Mena and RF BM Keith Morales. “professional moves” was the phrase of the night. ’twas a helluva fun.

This Friday is another exciting match between team Marketing and (hopefully) ICT. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped me during the debut match; Alex Mena and Chris Dee for helping me setup and for bringing their Xboxes, Super GM Archie for the PS2, Toby, Erwin Manansala for the tech stuff, Ben and Phil for gracing the occassion and everyone else who pitched in.

Meanwhile, the scores are already updated. Go check out the team and the individual totals. Remember, Finance Director Ric Laig already handed me the iPod Nano as the prize for the MVP.

It’s the first day of competitions between Level Up International (where big bosses Ben and Phil playin’ 2k8) and they’re up against “Chase and the Others”, an all-star gamer team composed mostly of members of the GM team and from Game Ops. Their leader is RF CM Chase (who’s also their poster boy hehe)

Meanwhile, Photoshop guru Neil just emailed me the final design for the logo of our tournament. Check it out! Great work, Neil!!! Asteeg

The games will be played at the LU mini-con and everyone’s excited!

oh yeah… btw, it’s official, as donated by HR c/o CFO Ric Laig, an iPod nano will be the prize for the league’s MVP. I’ll post photos of it ASAP.

Both teams will be playing ALL games this Friday. Note that each team can have a maximum of 18 points as explained by our mechanics. Although most of the teams haven’t submitted their lineup, verbally, around 6 or 7 teams from different departments already committed.

Even GameBoss Ben Colayco will be joining the fun and playing NBA 2k8 for the Xbox 360. That will be an interesting match to see.

Meanwhile, we have a pictorial for the teams tomorrow, a practice session and our Photoshop guru, Neil will be sending me the final logo design for the event anytime this week so I can update the photo/banner of this blog.
